Kayla M. Fajota is an Associate in the firm’s Family Law practice group. Kayla earned her law degree from the University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law. In addition, Kayla served as a Legal Research Assistant for Professor Eric Yamamoto’s Scholars Advocacy Project, where she performed legal research, analysis, and writing for the book “In the Shadow of Korematsu: Democratic Liberties and National Security.”
While in law school, Kayla also served as a Family Law Clerk with a Honolulu law firm. She was immersed in all areas of the practice of family law while working there. She gained experience in attorney-client meetings, mediation sessions, settlement negotiations and motion hearings.
If you asked Kayla what she likes most about being an attorney, she would tell you that she values the ability to help local families. According to Kayla, having the opportunity to interact face-to-face with clients and help them through the divorce process – which can be one of the most emotionally and psychologically challenging times of their lives – makes practicing family law extremely rewarding and fulfilling. Impassioned, she also believes that her empathy, attention to detail, and strong work ethic help her find creative workable solutions for her clients and their families.
A graduate of Creighton University, Kayla earned a B.A. in Psychology. She was on Creighton’s Dean’s list from 2013 to 2015. While in Nebraska, she volunteered as an Assistant Behavioral Specialist at Behaven, Inc. working closely with children who had mild to severe behavioral issues. Kayla continues to focus her career on working with children and families.
Born and raised on Oahu, Kayla is a graduate of Maryknoll High School and currently resides in Honolulu. With a desire to serve her community manifested at a very early age, she volunteered for eight summers as a teacher’s aide at Mililani Mauka Elementary, concluding senior year in high school. Today, Kayla enjoys playing the piano, painting, cooking for family and friends, and spending quality time with her schnauzer, Otis.
